In 1998, the City of Farmington joined with the Farmington R7 School District and the Department of Public Safety through a grant, to initiate the School Resource Officer (SRO) position in effort to make the schools a safer place. The following year, an additional SRO was added to assist with the student body, which today consists of about 3800 students.

The SRO acts as a liaison between the student body, the school district and the Police Department. Duties include teaching students about the harmful effects of drugs, enforcement of laws and Safe School Act violations, assisting with truancy programs and helping make the schools safe as possible.
