City of Farmington to Provide Cooling Centers Due to Heat Advisory

 

Farmington, Missouri (June 9, 2026) – A Heat Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service for St. Francois County until Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at 10:00pm. The City of Farmington would like to remind residents that if relief is needed from the daytime heat, any City building that is accessible to the public during normal business hours may be used as a cooling center.

 

According to the National Weather Service, heat indexes are expected to climb at or above 108° today. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.

 

Cooling Centers will be available at the following locations:

Farmington Emergency Management Director Josh McAtee reminds residents to use caution during periods of high temperatures. Limit outdoor activity whenever possible or schedule outdoor tasks for the early morning or evening to avoid the hottest part of the day. Drink plenty of water and wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing.

 

Also remember to never leave people or pets in a vehicle, and monitor those at risk, such as children, the elderly, and people with chronic health conditions. If you suspect someone is having a heat stroke, call 911.
