Blasting Operations to Begin at Farmington Crossings

Farmington, Missouri (May 11, 2026) – Development of Farmington Crossings is currently underway, with blasting operations expected to begin later this week.

The planned 316,064-square-foot open-air retail development, located at the intersection of Highway 67 and Woodlawn Drive in Farmington will require site preparation and land development, including blasting operations to be performed by the developer’s excavation contractor.

Blasting operations are controlled uses of explosives to break and loosen rock, soil, or other hard materials during land development. On large development sites, blasting is often used to prepare the land for roads, utilities, foundations, drainage systems, and grading by removing rock formations that cannot be excavated with standard equipment.

The excavation contractor anticipates blasting operations will begin on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, and continue periodically throughout the project. On days when blasting occurs, one to two blasts are expected between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Each blasting event will follow the same procedure:

  • Five minutes before a blast, three short air horn signals will sound to alert those in the immediate area.
  • One minute before the blast, another three short air horn signals will sound.
  • After the blast, the area will be inspected by the contractor to confirm all materials have detonated properly and that the shot is all clear.
  • One long air horn signal will sound to indicate the area is clear.

Residents and businesses in the surrounding area may hear and feel the blasts; however, the contractor must conduct the blasting in accordance with rules put in place by the State of Missouri designed to prevent damage to nearby structures, including a home’s plaster and drywall.

In addition, residents in close proximity to the project site have received door hangers from the contractor outlining what to expect during blasting operations.
